Squarespace locks you in Hi, jturolla here. I've been a user of Squarespace for over a year now, and I decided to move to Wordpress as the service got a little expensive for us in Brazil due to the exchange rate. When I exported Squarespace data as XML to upload in Wordpress I noticed every image is still hosted at Squarespace, no biggie, right? I can just scrap the URLS and download every image and upload them again in wordpress... WRONG. What happens it that Squarespace has so restrict access policies to their website that if I try to download even 4 images, one each 60 seconds (I used wget to do it), I get a 429 TOO MANY REQUESTS error, and squarespace blocks me in downloading my own images. When requesting help from Squarespace customer service, they keep sending me over and over emails explaining stupid obvious things that are irrelevant to what I want: To download my assets from Squarespace! The worst part was that after my site got disabled on Squarespace as I stopped paying, the images hosted at Squarespace vanished, breaking my entire new host, something the Customer Service told wasn't going to happen, but DID HAPPEN. Squarespace told my XML includes links that would be "automagically" uploaded to wordpress, which is a LIE, and can be confirmed on this URL: http://recordit.co/n3VPJc3xOc Customer support is not helping. They pretend to know "issues" that do not exist, and keep exchanging irrelevant messages, and I don't know what to do, as they will not help me export my assets, and I refuse to expend an extreme amount of time download images one by one using chrome. So, here is my recommendation: Do not use Squarespace, it will lock you in and not help you leave even by request on their customer service. |
