How important is programming language in a job opportunity? As a recruiter lacking programming knowledge, I'm curious to hear your response: how much of a factor does language play, versus other major considerations such as the company (or the problem you're solving), culture/team, compensation, etc. I occasionally run into software engineers that appear offended by the notion of moving from say Ruby to Python, but then others who are amenable. Are there certain languages that foster more "zealotry" than others? I imagine it depends on the individual (status quo versus trying new things), naturally, but more insight into this would be helpful. I really appreciate it. |
