Ask HN: How to launch an app international on day one? We often hear that a startup should focus on one geographic location at a time for the best results, but I haven't been able to find any examples of startups attempting the opposite approach to know whether or not this is true. I often wonder if focusing on a specific niche internationally may be a better strategy to ward off copycats and being blocked out of international markets. For Example, if launching a clothing app, I believe it may be more beneficial to focus on a specific niche (like shoes) and expanding the app internationally. Then, after international expansion, expanding into clothing, jewelry, accessories, etc. For startup founders in locations with small populations or in competition with large corporations, this strategy may better than focusing on geography. Since starting this way isn’t the norm, it is difficult to find information on doing so. It seems that courses and guides that teach “best practices” often only really teach most-used practices. Anyway, I to try this strategy to see if it’ll work. With that being said, how do we launch an app international from day one? Has any startup launched in multiple countries at one time? If so, how? Did it workout for them? What to Consider? 1. Language/Culture translation 2. Tailored app store listings 3. Government Regulation 4. ? 5. ? Thanks :-) |
