Ask HN: Remote compensation tied to geography? Our HR says remote employees' salary bands are determined by market rates in their geographic location and employees at the top of their bands are ineligible for raises other than promotions, but e.g. would be eligible if they moved to a metro area (still remote). Is this standard? Sounds ridiculous to me, just a power play on compensation, am I being ridiculous or is my intuition in the right direction? If not ridiculous, how to fight it? |
