This article is disingenuous. The background check bill linked to from 2013 that got shot down? It also included an "assault weapons ban." Other background check bills shot down in the past have had similar problems. Other background check proposals would have prohibited lending a gun to someone even at the range or adding an additional tax on each transfer.
Unfortunately, the people who push these bills seem more interested in pushing law that upsets gun people rather than working with gun people to find a compromise that works for everyone.
