Comparing trump to hitler just dilutes the severity of hitler's crime and makes a mockery of ww2 and genocide. One shouldn't use the name of hitler to attack people one simply disagrees with.

I wish the nytimes and the rest of the media would go back to actual reporting real news rather the nonstop flamebaiting and clickbaiting.

Everytime the nytimes, politicians and celebrities compare trump to hitler, it makes trump look good and the nytimes, politicians and celebrities look bad. Trump may be incompetent, but no sane person would compare him to hitler.

"Hitler" should be reserved for the most reprehensible of people committing the most heinous of crimes, not people you don't like. It's disgusting what this canadian politician did and nytimes "reporting".

The headline for this article is quite misleading, clearly chosen by the editor as clickbait.

This is mostly an interesting article about the history of Canadian-American trade, with Freeland using a quote about Hitler's political strategy regarding presenting a black and white picture at the end.

This is an interesting long-form article and relevant to HN.

But the title should be changed to "First Canada Tried to Charm Trump. Now It’s Fighting Back" or "Inside Justin Trudeau’s campaign against the American trade war".

Cognitive dissonance of this level has no place in the Canadian government, she clearly lacks any interest in deriving insight from his policies. Rather than trying to understand what is going on, she retreats to ideological blindness.

This mindset is endemic in the Canadian government and it greatly saddens me. I can only hope things get better and sanity returns to Canadian parliament.
