I've used both HN and various distribution sites, and somehow when you look at where people found us, it's clear HN users seem the best qualified.
It's also kinda interesting that traditional recruiters don't seem to know that HN is a bit of a treasure trove of CVs. At least the financial ones I meet in London are quite surprised I can find someone on some site that only has a hiring thread once a month.
Super amazing at marketing themselves maybe, but I doubt GitHub follower count is correlated with programming skill in the general case (unless you are hiring Linus Torvalds).
But, uh. What's the reality for tech recruiters? I would think that there are enough applicants for many jobs that finding people isn't the problem?
And we have an enormous GDP, are stuck to the biggest country in the world, and currently in a social instability period reducing even more the imported talent pool.
Reality for tech recruiters here is a nightmare, trying to go to other continents to beg people to come get rich...
1. Try GitHub... 2. Try Stack Overflow... 3. Try...hackathons? 4. Try..whatever recruiters are trying??
That's it. Save the click.
