Ask HN: How to bring up a kid interested in programming to become a programmer? My 13-year-old nephew has been dabbling with Python and Arduino on and off for a year. I've seen folks here often say that the best way to learn programming is to work on a project. So, a few days back I told him I require a program to bulk-rename subtitles based on the corresponding video file names, and to my surprise, within a day he wrote a python program that did it. Then I told him to make it an executable file and again within a day he learned how to do it and did it. I'd like him to grow up to become a professional programmer. What can I do to help? Thanks in advance. |
