Ask HN: Are you over 40 and looking to learning music? I have programmed for over 20 years (mainly Python) and after turning 40 (43 to be precise) started learning music with little or no background to playing. I heard that it is good to learn a language after 40 and also heard that music is a language. Hence I felt it would be a good thing to work on. Pretty soon I realized that music is not just about picking up an instrument and start playing. There are many topics one might need to take side by side to get to a reasonable state. It has been 4 years now and I am thinking of making some introductory lessons on starting music after 40 and challenges of beginning a little late (nearly everywhere one hears that learning music should start as early as possible). The topics I am currently thinking of covering are shown -- https://www.viewpedia.org/musicCourse-map.png So I wanted to know from Hacker news community, if there is interest in such a course and if there are already courses like these out there that are specifically tarageted for programmers, engineers, etc... over 40 to learn music from the ground up. Note : https://www.viewpedia.org is a website I am building to try and collect youtube videos of all Nepali dances and music as I am very much interested in folk music and culture. |
