This is in bad taste. Billionaires are capable of causing death and suffering at a vast scale, but they aren't associated with gladiatorial excesses any more than the common person is.

Wealthy people tend to be involved in sexual improprieties when things go scandalous. That is what they will be using their secret islands for (cough cough Epstein).

Is this a joke? Or is this a billionaire that is so centered that they think these TV shows were about them?

This is more about the deranged author and their perception of economics as a zero-sum game, than a satirical social commentary. Perhaps I misread the piece. Maybe they were satirizing the out of touch socialist's perspective?
