No one knows exactly what is going to happen. Is it like 2008? Or the world will dismiss the dollar entirely? If so, not just Americans, but the whole world will live in new unpredictable situations for a few years until things start to settle again. If you can buy gold and keep it for the long term, ignoring the price changes entirely in the coming years, it will be good for you AFAIK.

But you have to remember that you still need money for those years, so don't buy gold with all your money.

Maybe there is something very smart to do in the middle of the crash, which I guess you can be sure what it is after the crash happens.

The general idea still applies. Do the opposite of the crowd.

You should be doing what everyone else is saying they are not doing.

If the crowd is selling, you're buying.

Markets are down? Perhaps it's time to get as much money into the stock market as possible. Eat less, burn some weight, take the saved money and get it invested.
