Right. How many times have we heard some variation of this after an acquisition? And how many times has it actually panned out that way? I'm pretty sure the answer to that second question is, to a first approximation, "zero".
I had recently started migrating all of my stuff off of Linode to a cheaper alternative anyway, and this just makes me that much more glad. I really don't see things with Linode getting better as a result of this acquisition. Does anybody? Other than the marketing-gobbledygook writer at Akamai?
This could accelerate Linode's growth into a larger alternative cloud provider. Right now they are still very much a VPS provider with some recent managed services offerings thrown on top. I'd certainly say having an alternative to the big 3 providers in the market to create some competition is a good thing.
