I don't follow some hard and fast rule. I naturally take breaks from tasks, when I feel like it, or when I'm getting slower at performance or not being as sharp as I should be; then I take a break.

I used to break up a jira ticket into smaller tasks that would end up in my pomodoro queue or whatever. Eventually I realized I was trying too hard.
