Why did all these AI image generators come out at once?

Midjourney, Dalle 2, Stable Diffusion all came out seemingly at once. It seems that there was a very quick jump in technology. How? Why?

I feel like that's how science works. You build and build and build, and at one point, what others built can be used as a platform for new builders and that's when we perceive these quick jumps in technologies.
