The act of publishing a poll on a very controversial subject may have been intentional. He alluded that the poll was attacked by bots, for which they likely collected large amounts of data.

It's very possible he already made his mind up before the poll was posted, and it was a behavioural data harvesting exercise.

This is mere speculation but certainly possible.
