Genuinely curious, because I feel like I'm missing something - the owner is apparently disillusioned by nobody caring, but why were people supposed to care in the first place?

It seems like a person who is not really technically trained. He got a good sounding domain and a bit of popularity and battled through trolls all these years - then popularity (and questionable usefulness) faded, the joy/stress ratio quickly became not worth it.

I get that this person must be stressed, but this decision does not have much useful morale. A bit like this HN post - catchy name, but not much substance.

I fear for children of the future, they may end up thinking the internet is just a corporate mouthpiece.

Sites like this will be just a memory.

Seems like a nice idea, but maintaining a site like that probably is a ball-ache, definitely want to find some users that are really into a site like that so you can delegate some moderation.
