I'm not sure I buy the argument that a TikTok ban is the leading edge of restrictions on computing. I picture it as more of a "not available in your country" thing that everyone will just circumvent. It's an political initiative spawned mostly out of ignorance about how the internet works.

I do agree that general purpose computing restrictions are one of the biggest threats we face right now. There's way to much incentive on the side of government and large companies to push for restrictions, and too many useful idiots that agree - all the AI fud is a great example, and there's a good argument to be made that restrictions are exactly what the big players want. It's basically the holy grail of regulatory capture. I hope this continues to get attention.
