Used to have a game on a portable device that wasn't networked. Had to have a code to authenticate software downloaded from your desktop machine.

Folks failed to put in the right code, routinely. Biggest trouble ticket frequency, Code doesn't work!

So we issued upper-case only code, capitalized whatever they put in. Removed all blanks. Tried multiple matches, swapping '1' and 'l' and so on until something worked.

Trouble ticket dropped to nearly zero.

The code didn't really matter to us. Just something the platform needed to work. So we were happy to be generous.
