Ask HN: Orgs with good Eng Culture, what practices make you succeed? I don't know if there is an _absolute_ definition to good Engineering Culture but IMO the following points may hint towards a company that is doing things right, - You feel your work is valued, whether it's through cash/gift rewards or otherwise. - Money is not your only incentive to stay at your current company. - Your teammates value each other and have no (or little) ego. - You were a better programmer than what you were a year ago? (I don't know if 1 year is an accurate scale of measurement but I hope I get my point across). - Respect goes both ways. - You have a clear path forward for where your career may head if you stay at the company for the next 3-5 years. - You get enough independence to make decisions, less red-tape. There's a lot more to it, I'm sure. But if you identify with most of these points, what does your company do right? |
