Doesn't like Safari. When I pasted the link into Chrome it wants access to the camera (okay) but then Chrome asked for access to the camera.

I was assuming there would be a URL-specific prompt like "Allow 'https://andrei.codes/ascii-camera/' access to your camera?" [OK] [For One Day] [Deny]. But this was not the case.

Yeah, I have avoided blanket-allowing access to my camera to this point. I'm not blaming the site, but I am blaming Chrome.

Yep. The one non-webrtc website I reasonably trust with webcam is https://webcamtests.com/, but for a fun art projects, I'd just like screenshots please.
