Hollywood was getting rocked way before AI showed up. There are many different forces rocking the boat.
When Supply of content greatly exceeds Demand what happens to its value? Human Attention is finite but amount of entertainment content availble has exploded massively since the internet arrived. The UN report on the Attention Economy say people end up consuming less than 1% of all content produced.
So how is it sustaining itself? Usual ways Outsourcing (DNEG the largest VFX firm is run by indians) Big Tech subsidizing things to push their own agenda/tie people to their platforms - this is why everyone from Apple,Amazon,Google, Netflix, Larry Ellison started funding movies. Its about empire defense.
Media options too have exploded Gaming, Streaming, Sports, Cable, Music, Social Media, Reality TV are all fishing in the same finite non growing pool of attention.
Its cheaper to produce/distribute media than ever before so there are creatives and kids all over the world now producing media in their own vernacular, eating into the eyeballs the monopoly hollywood enjoyed for a long time due to high barrier to entry.
Then there is info overload, audience fatigue, metrics platforms share publicly give a warped view of whats really going on, money laundering, global financial logic having a huge influence on how things work. All this was going on before AI arrived, and AI will add another layer to the complexity stack.
Some people want a simple story about a very complex time. That need just creates misunderstandings and confusion. It misguides people about what problems need solving. The biggest problem is human attention is being over fished.

Had I been part of Harvard's class of 2026, I'd boo Conan O'Brien on principle. He just stuck his head into Hume's Guillotine, trying to derive an ought from the "is" that is GenAI screwing over Hollywood, and I would happily pull the lever.
He does not get to tell me what my mission is, or dictate my generation's mission, or anybody's mission.
Speaking strictly for myself (something O'Brien should try for once in his life): I did not spend my life being told that because I'm a man my feelings don't matter, just so that everybody with an axe to grind can try to conscript my heart into the service of their idea of a good cause.
Besides, how does this clown know that AI won't eat itself without young people's help? Model collapse might already be happening, and I am so here for it.
> "Remember the compliments you receive; forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how"
How does this clown even know anyone even gets compliments, or doesn't have bad memory anyway?
