I wanted a rotten tomatoes for ai film, hence popcorn.movie, because AI films need a critical and technical review that's different to movies, and we're in the 1895-1920's of ai movies right now.

Many festivals, people, industries, sites reject or suppress ai, for many great reasons (slop), and of course slopscrolling and other sites have the slop problem, as does this - the idea is to look past the slop to the real stories and technically great content, with an view that ai is a tool.

"is this stuff actually getting good, and which models are doing it?". Hot or slop.

My personal interest in ai video, probably stupid - try to actually visualize my dreams through prompts. I've tried it, but it never quite works, but it's fun.

The site doesn't host video (everything plays via youtube-nocookie embeds). The product is the ranking, the many detailed breakdowns of voice sync, glitches, discussions.

If you love looking at coherence and how models are moving along, while seeing short and long form film content that is posted for ai festivals, check it out. Some of them have surprised me a lot. There's some 2 minute short films in here that are legit memorable and make you think, the stuff you imagine has been "let our of people's minds" by these tools.

- Every film records what it was made with (Seedance, Veo, Kling, Sora, mocap, Blender, real footage…), so there are per-tool leaderboards: which models produce watchable film (barren as heckfire right now, use the bookmarklet to add and review? get creators to share more about process)

- Votes only count toward the score if you actually watched a meaningful chunk (tracked via the IFrame API). Verdicts use a Wilson lower bound over reputation-weighted votes, star scores are Bayesian-shrunk toward the site mean, and voter reputation is a Beta distribution updated when a film's verdict settles. An openly pro-AI film site is a brigading magnet from both directions; the math is the defense.

- It tracks AI film festivals as they happen on YouTube i.e. Astana's #SpecialForAAIFF wave, Reply's Venice festival, Chroma, Project Odyssey, each with its verified submissions ranked.

- For the appreciation-society crowd there's a 46-axis breakdown (character consistency, temporal coherence, complex interaction; hands, eating, two bodies, generative necessity, je ne sais quoi). Every axis optional; unrated means not-applicable, not zero.

Stack, for the curious: Go + Postgres + HTMX + Mustache, one binary, no SPA, no analytics vendor. Sign-in is Google, reviewers get generated olde-English pen names.

It's early, the catalogue is ~120 films seeded from festival hashtags and the voting community is tiny, so the rankings are still forming. That's sort of the point of posting: if you've ever wondered whether AI film is developing into anything, come watch a few and leave an honest verdict. Curious what HN thinks about the anti-brigading, "let's see where this is going" ethos.

Suggestions? I have a very narrow taste of movies/tv - if someone isn't trying to solve a murder, theft or some locked-room hijinks, I generally can't pay attention to it, so I tend to rewatch Columbo, Banacek and The Rockford Files, but I am liking some of these movies, I love watching the tech but I need people with different tastes and likes.
