Hacker News now has an active (official) X account

Xcancel shut down after mostly being promoted on HN and now HN makes an official account there?

"On Monday 24th August at 8PM EST, we received at letter from X Corp. asking to cease and desist the service XCancel. The service XCancel is stopped until further notice. We are seeking legal advice and won't share more details for now. Thank you for the trust you have put in these two years of XCancel."

Hacker News is just trying to light a candle in the darkness.

Of a gasoline station.

Won't be reading any twitter post on HN.

Is there a convenient way to block them?

angoragoats 39 days ago

I flag and hide every single Twitter post that I see. HN’s code seems to be stuck in the 2000s, so there’s no easy way to automatically block or filter beyond that. To be honest, I just end up coming to this site less than I used to.

You know you can configure your browser to hide Twitter links posted here.

angoragoats 39 days ago

Sure, I assume you mean with userscripts or custom CSS. I can’t be bothered; just going to continue to visit the site less.

massimodeluisa 39 days ago

to block them? Can you explain the behavior that you expect from X?

dare944 39 days ago | | |

Sorry. I meant, is there any way to block stories on HN that link to Twitter posts?

Is there an official Bluesky or Mastodon? Especially after the Nitter cease-and-desist, I have run out of patience for Musk's propaganda machine.

krapp 40 days ago | |

I know there are HN bots pulling stories to Mastodon but I don't think there's an official instance.

dzhiurgis 39 days ago | |

IMO there's a lot more propaganda here.

Bluesky is completely mental. People crucified X for occasional swastika "art", while Blusky openly promotes communist symbolism that is illegal in good chunk in Europe. Insane.

pfraze 38 days ago | | |

It does?

dzhiurgis 36 days ago | | |

Sibling comment is excellent example. Possibly 1% of truth, completely irrelevant links, formatted as if it's a banger game-over response.

kevinfiol 35 days ago | | |

Are you referring to my comment here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49454431? Can you explain how I'm promoting communist symbolism or crucifying innocent folks for "swastika art"? What part or what did I suggest was not truthful?

pfraze 36 days ago | | |

I’m asking what you mean by “Bluesky openly promotes communist symbolism”

kevinfiol 39 days ago | | |

I don't use Bluesky much, but the software at least is not user-hostile like X.com. I can view threads/posts without logging in, or use alternative clients that support the AT Protocol.

As a sidenote, X is rightfully crucified for blatant anti-semitism and Hitler worship all over the site, complemented by Musk's own ridiculous anti-semitic dogwhistling and retweeting misinformation and conspiracy theories. The site is bottom of the barrel /pol/-tier trash. I literally searched "Hitler" seconds ago, and found a thread today full of people adoring him.

Good decision, since X posts are now auto translated to users prefer language. And X is still in the top social media in lot of countries.

Haha. It's like creating a MySpace account in... 2026.

> Hello again, world!

Has that kinda vibe.

ggm 40 days ago |

Not to be too Elon like terse but:

"Why"

(I read the post)

andsoitis 40 days ago | |

Presumably because it advances the goals of Hacker News and perhaps YCombinator.

Need for traffic? For some purpose I can't come up. Have they run out of marks or something?

Becoming active on Twitter in 2006: sunglasses

Becoming active on Twitter in 2016: popcorn

Becoming active on Xitter in 2026: red ballcap

It makes a statement. Is it a statement you want to make?

GPerson 40 days ago | |

Are people here really surprised that the techno-capitalist aggregator people would make an account on Elon’s website?

massimodeluisa 39 days ago |

It would be much useful IMO if you read and reply to comments there (maybe by filtering verified paying accounts).

Anyone got an Xcancel link? Oh wait...

Not a great look, YC.

ray_v 40 days ago | |

As a casual Xcancel user, this is actually the first I'm hearing of this. Wow, what a bummer
