How about not using Windows in Industrial production environments. It is one of the biggest failings of the modern industrial automation industry. I am vocal about this with vendors and explain the headaches they have foisted on to me and my coworkers. Most shrug it off, though there are some who understand and are "looking for alternatives"
As I type I am fighting with restoring a Windows 2000 install on a 2000's era production machine because the vendors real-time Windows Software only runs on 2K or XP kernels. The OEM is gone and retrofitting new controls means big $$$ and days or weeks of down time which production and management will not consider. So we kick the can further and further down the road because I can wrestle the machine and bring it back to life.
