I don't understand how "companies will be unable to monetize AI" and "AI is a dangerous technology that can cause significant economic disruptions due to cyberattacks and incur serious losses". It seems like any sufficiently powerful system should be monetize-able? I think AI has far more positive applications that also can create profit, but this alone seems like an internal contradiction. Also, the author takes their claim that this is a "setup for a government bailout" as a given, but without citations this seems like pure speculation.

It's 100% a scam, and it's obviously a scam. They are not slowing down their efforts in any meaningful way, just the progress because they are hitting a wall. They want regulatory capture and an excuse to pump the brakes and slow the money burn, even if that is before their models reache even half way up the bar of what they were promising.

And this is coming from somebody who is, as a whole, positive on AI being useful.

Just an fyi since my poli sci prof would bring this up whenever it was mentioned: Trump cannot unilaterally cancel elections. They are run by the states.
