Ask HN: Why does Apple make hard to learn languages instead of easy ones? Objective-C and Swift seem like really hard to learn. Why does Apple make it so hard to learn how to program their devices instead of making it easier to learn? Why don't they just make a language based on BASIC, Python, Ruby on Rails, Pascal, or something like that for beginners? If only they used Monodevelop to port Dotnet apps to Cocoa using C# and VB.Net or something, then they could beat Microsoft at their own game and port Windows apps to OSX and iOS with some Apple Forms Converter to convert Winforms to Cocoa forms. Why make Swift even harder to learn than Objective-C? Why not make it easier to learn to get more people developing for their platform to switch from Microsoft to Apple? |
