I am a soon-to-be dad. I am looking forward to it, and we have prepared as best we can.

However, one thought is nagging me.

I have finished my bachelors degree in computer science, and I am onset to start my master degree in the fall.

However, I have very little job experience. I have decent grades, enjoy studying and have held a TA position. But I have never worked in a CS-related role professionally and do not consider myself a very good "developer".

I am afraid that I will not be able to work as good (or long) as my peers on school, or on side projects and internships; and that, due to my lack of experience, will have future employers turn me down.

I don't know; maybe I am a bit too pessimistic.\nI am based in Scandinavia for reference.

Anyone with experience having a child, before your career took off? Or similarly, while in school?

Any advice or words upon the matter is appreciated.

Best wishes, Lasse.","time":1784370442,"title":"Ask HN: Having a child before career has taken off","type":"story"}],[48950676,{"by":"Ryan_Li","descendants":12,"id":48950676,"kids":[48954345,48951078,48951961,48950855,48950719,48950748,48950930,48950688],"score":23,"time":1784313095,"title":"Fable 5 dropped from subscriptions before the promised July 19 date","type":"story"}],[48860494,{"by":"degoogled","descendants":24,"id":48860494,"kids":[48862472,48862273,48861671,48862631,48873278,48862843,48883565,48864779,48895234,48862649],"score":37,"text":"$17","time":1783693766,"title":"Tell HN: I De-Googled Myself","type":"story"}],[48786455,{"by":"mgranados","descendants":62,"id":48786455,"kids":[48834974,48836571,48833352,48836798,48837716,48834965,48836007,48866434,48836418,48833390,48832357,48832807,48835965,48835888,48832512,48794838,48833044,48833095,48833529,48833373,48835726,48833231,48852414,48861144,48836794,48834658,48835615,48832694,48833855,48843441,48837467,48843828,48858148],"score":156,"text":"deck.gl based visualiser of the TFL Api + National Rails to be able to track (with minimal drift) a train along the way in London and to the nearest airports.
